02 Jul English 101: Teaching Prostitutes English in Brazil
So my good friend, roommate and co-conspirator – Niall Doherty, was throwing out some interesting job suggestions that I could do whilst I am living here in Brazil. One of these suggestions was to do something very special for the World Cup. If you happen to have eyeballs, no doubt you have seen a bit of controversy spattered all over the news about some points of contention about FIFA’s World Cup being hosted in Brazil.
As I stated in my last blog post, feelings seem to be pretty mixed here about the whole World Cup affair – and by mixed I mean in general people are pissed off but at this point in the game, there isn’t a whole lot one can do except to hope that Brazil pulls off the big win in the cup and no one kills each other.
So on that note, I thought I would start off nice and easy in Brazil and do something for the World Cup that isn’t quite so contentious, so I have decided to teach prostitutes English. With a little bit of web perusing I found an organization that helps the prostitutes in Brazil by teaching them the practices of safe sex – and what better way for me to help than to offer up my paltry skill set and impregnate the prostitutes with knowledge of the written English word to better their business and promote safer sex amongst nations.
Obama may not be the only gringo getting a pre-emptive Nobel Peace Prize.
So without further ado, I shall embark on my latest public service by venturing into the seedy underbelly of Belo Horizonte Brazil to see if I can do what I do best: convince people to listen and employ this helpless gringo.
