But just to make it easier for you here are 6 of the best destinations that you must see when visiting Vietnam by motorcycle.

1. Ho Chi Minh City

Formerly known as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in the country and a bustling metropolis filled with history, culture, and excellent cuisine. Here visitors can enjoy some of the best restaurants and cafes in the country, while also admiring the multi cultural architectural heritage of the city which includes the old French district of Da Kao, the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Jade Emperor Pagoda, and various Buddhist and Taoist temples.

2. Hue

Hue’s incredible concentration of historic buildings and relics are a testament to the city’s former glory as the seat of the Nguyen Dynasty emperors, who built the sumptuous Imperial City as their residence. Located along the banks of the Perfume River, the beautiful Imperial Enclosure contains astonishing architectural sights such as the red halls of the Thai Hoa Palace, the impressive Ngo Mon Gate, and the murals of the Halls of Mandarins.

3. Hoi An

This atmospheric port city offers visitors an excellent mix of culture, sights, and good cuisine in one place. Hoi An’s unique cultural mix is largely the result of its importance as a trade hub throughout much of Vietnam’s history. The old town quarter is a perfect example of this, as its quaint streets and alleys contain many examples of Japanese and Chinese architecture built by the foreign merchants that flocked to the port looking for the best silks in Southeast Asia.

Looking to start your journey to Vietnam by Motorbike?

Traveling through Vietnam by motorbike has been one of the best trips I have ever taken hands down. I went to Vietnam via Bangkok and had to wait 4 days to get my visa through the embassy in Bangkok which was annoying and a pain. I would have rather had it all set up. It would have been way easier to arrange my visa ahead of time. You can do this by getting a Vietnam Visa for USA citizens online and with ease if I had bothered to do a little bit of research. Using this online service enables you to get a visa on arrival, so you don’t have to spend 4 days sweating in Bangkok dealing with finding the embassy, dodging tuk-tuks. Next time, I’ll know better. Lesson learned.

4. Nha Trang

Located along the beautiful coasts of South Central Vietnam, Nha Trang is an incredible seaside resort city that is surrounded by scenic mountains, gorgeous beaches, and islands. Think of it as a Southeast Asian Rio de Janeiro or Miami, but without the noise and problems inherent to a big city. Must-see attractions include the crystalline waters of Nha Trang beach, which are perfect for scuba diving, as well as its luxurious resorts, exciting water parks, and excellent restaurants.

5. Sa Pa

Surrounded by misty-covered hills and rice terraces, Sa Pa is a charming city that is located on Vietnam’s remote northern border. The town’s diverse population, which includes a diverse array of mountain tribes, make it a unique destination where visitors can experience local foods, traditions, and culture which they won’t find in any other place of the country. Nearby rice paddies and traditional villages also make for great motorcycle or trekking adventures. The Thac Bac waterfalls, in particular, are an amazing sight that no visitor can leave without seeing.

6. Da Lat

Da Lat’s year-round cool weather and beautiful misty valleys have made it a popular summer retreat for centuries. Located at the southern end of the Central Highlands, this charming city offers a beautiful mix of French colonial and traditional Vietnamese architecture, which when added to the surrounding scenic landscape makes it a perfect place to escape Vietnam’s notoriously humid summer and busy cities.
